OK, we say the best, but that’s partly because we’re trying to get the algorithm to send some people our way. In all seriousness though, these are sauces we genuinely love and keep in rotation in our cupboard or fridge.
Sussex has some great sauce makers, so here are a few of our favourites. And yes, we’re obviously going to include NUTS. We made it, after all, and we reckon it deserves a place on the shelf.
Joe’s Chilli Sauce – English Buffalo Hot Sauce

An interesting twist on a classic. It’s got a little tingle of heat and a tangy kick that cuts through nicely. A great one to have on hand when you fancy something familiar with a bit of a twist.

Spiced Sussex – Naga & Fennel

A unique, smoky sauce that balances serious heat with a distinctive aniseed-like flavour. One for when you want something a little different.

Burning Desire – Chipotle Syrup with Spiced Rum

Not strictly a hot sauce, but we’re including it anyway. We love the deep, smoky kick this syrup brings to a stack of pancakes. Because apparently, even pancakes aren’t safe from chilli.

And then there’s NUTS…

Yes, we’re including ourselves. It would be weird not to.
Our Lime, Peanut & Scotch Bonnet hot sauce brings together the creamy richness of peanuts, the fruity heat of Scotch bonnet and a hit of lime to keep everything bright and fresh. It’s made in small batches in Sussex, and it’s picked up a Great Taste star of its own.
We reckon it works particularly well on tacos, burgers, noodles and pretty much anything that could do with a little lift.

Got a Sussex sauce we should try?
We’re always looking for new sauces to try, so if there’s a local favourite we’ve missed, let us know. We’re happy to make room on the shelf.
In the name of research, obviously.
